Holistic Menopause Support
Rebalance Naturally
The menopause marks the end of menstruation. Referred to as 'the great cleanse' it is a powerful time of transition for women - physically, emotionally and spiritually.
A woman's ovarian reserves naturally change over her lifetime. Peri-menopause is the transformative phase before the menopause begins.

What the Evidence Says: BAcC Factsheets Insights
Backing our clinical approach with evidence, The British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) research factsheets highlight how acupuncture supports your body:
-
Calms Hot Flushes: Trials show a significant reduction in the frequency and severity of hot flushes and night sweats.
-
Settles Anxiety: Acupuncture down-regulates your body's "fight-or-flight" response, balancing cortisol levels to ease mood shifts and brain fog.
-
Restores Sleep: Clinical studies demonstrate that acupuncture improves sleep quality and duration by regulating natural sleep hormones.
The TCM View of the Menopause
The menopause is as natural as the menarche. According to the Chinese 'nourishment of life' tradition the aim is to live as well as you can for as long as you can.
Women would not be able to live well for as long if they continued to use up their energy reserves every month (if we consider the release of egg at ovulation as a loss of energy).
Your body makes a decision about when to preserve energy so that you can live well for longer. This is a natural law we cannot change.
Influencing Your Transition
What you can influence is how your body experiences your transition through conscious lifestyle choices. Your acupuncture treatment plan will include bespoke self-care and dietary recommendations to supplement and preserve your Qi.

Energetic Patterns
TCM interprets the menopause and the peri-menopause as a time of significant energetic shift. It may be that some symptoms are exacerbations of pre-existing imbalance. For example, a woman who has suffered with headaches and migraines throughout her life may see them worsen. Other symptoms, such as hot flushes, are more clearly linked to oestrogen decline.
From a tCM diagnostic perspective there are a number of common patterns which help explain your experiences. If you are interested in learning more I recommend reading this online article by renowned acupuncturist Giovanni Maciocia;
Advanced Clinical Training & Modalities
Your care is managed with a deep, specialized toolkit. In addition to degree-level acupuncture, Ruth completed advanced clinical training under TCM expert Sarah Pritchard, specializing in Tui Na and Moxa for Menopause. Your pathway may combine:
-
Traditional Acupuncture - Ultra-fine needles targeted to clear heat and nourish your body's root.
-
Yin-Style Tui Na - Deeply restorative bodywork designed to calm turbulent Qi and quiet an overactive mind.
-
Acupressure Ear Seeds: Small, non-invasive seeds placed on specific auricular points to provide continuous, round-the-clock support for flushes, mood, and fatigue at home.
Your Initial Consultation
Your menopause is unique to you. Your first visit lasts up to 90 minutes for a comprehensive case history. We discuss your history, triggers, lifestyle, diet, and emotions. We also observe your tongue to map your internal health.
Next, you will lie on a couch or remain seated. Ultra-fine, sterile needles are gently placed in specific points. You then rest for 20 to 25 minutes. If you dislike needles, non-invasive clinical acupressure is available.
How Many Treatments Will You Need?
Acupuncture works cumulatively. A course of weekly treatment is highly recommended for 6 weeks to establish baseline stability. We formally review your progress at week 6. Then we may move to weekly, fortnightly, monthly, or seasonal maintenance care with bespoke lifestyle recommendations.
