Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture (TCM)

Evidence-Based Internal Medicine in Central Carlisle

Acupuncture is not a superficial "quick fix," it is a comprehensive system of medical diagnostics and therapeutic medicine refined over thousands of years.

By inserting ultra-fine, sterile needles into acupuncture points (precise neuro-vascular sites) acupuncture stimulates the central nervous system. This process releases natural pain-relieving chemicals, balances hormonal production, increases blood circulation, and triggers the body's innate capacity to self-regulate.

At our Carlisle clinic, treatments are fully customized to treat you as a whole person, addressing the deep-rooted internal causes of your symptoms.

The Four Legs of the Chair of Health

Yang Sheng: The Nourishment of Life

Four key lifestyle factors affect your health.  Rooted in the Yang Sheng of preventative health preservation, Ruth evaluates which of your legs are currently unstable, tailoring your treatment plan to help bring you back to your natural balance.

1. Diet

Food is medicine. TCM dietary therapy focuses on the energetics of foods appropriate to your individual constitution.  We analyse the balance of food energetics, cooking methods, and factors such as when and how you eat.

2. Emotions

Emotional health relies upon smooth movement rather than suppression.  It is healthy to feel your emotions, but the key is not to hold on to them.  We can train the body, breath and mind to help achieve better emotional equilibrium.

Outdoor Group Exercise

3. Exercise & Rest

Yang Sheng balances physical activity by avoiding extreme exhaustion: not too much and not too little. Adequate movement incorporates functional rest and includes gentle cultivation practices like Qi Gong.

4. Sleep

A foundational biological necessity and an intentional retreat from the world to replenish deep energetic reserves.  To conserve this vital process, advice includes proper bedtime routines - such as not eating 3 hours before bedtime.
